Fall | Lisa Fields

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

—Genesis 3:1-7

There are so many things fighting for our fear. There are deep injustices that wound nations and communities. There is mistrust, brokenness, and pain in our relationships. There's deep hurt within ourselves that doesn't often even see the light of day.

There is so much in our world that is so, so good. But there is also so much that is so, so bad.

We know you feel it. We feel it, too.

And here's the thing. We could come into your inbox with a ton of comforting words, reassurances, and reminders that it won't always be this way. And all of that would be fine to say. God restores, and He comforts. But it's important to us that we sit and recognize the reality of our fallen world. God doesn't ignore that, and neither should we.

And to recognize our fallenness, we gotta just stop talking and let our hearts break like God's did.

Lisa Fields said this at Jubilee about Adam and Eve in the garden:  “God was no longer a person they ran to. He became a person they ran from.”

His heart breaks for sin, too. His heart breaks when we run away from Him.

Fall | Our sight is distorted

At Jubilee 2025, Lisa Fields laid out three clear ways sin impacted humanity after the fall: our sight, our feelings, and our relationships. Watch the video to dive deeper into this part of the Biblical Narrative, and remember that the story is not over yet.
